Saturn - RE: "The Athlon would have not caused much financial damage in Q4/Q1, but the media focus on the 'speed crown' would have led to more motherboard, chipset and software support for the Athlon platform, which would have hurt Intel next year."

I don't really think the media has an impact on whether or not a third party is gonna further support the AThlon.

It has been a couple of months since the Athlon came out, do you see the media's effect of more and more motherboard makers yet? I don't. Only a few companies' boards are available.

And as far as chipsets, Via, Ali, and Sis have already commited to the Athlon platform.

"Unfortunately to fight the 'phantom Athlon launches ', Intel had to lower its standards."

Is this an indication of future things to come, when the Athlon becomes even better?
