Diamond, if a company like Juniper with 200 employees lays off 2 people nobody would talk about it. But a company with 150,000 lays off 1600 people it hits the newswires. I lay off 5-10% of my unproductive employees regularly. It is a sign of good management.

Gone are those days when you can pass on the cost of "inefficiencies" and unproductive emloyees to the customers. Either you lay off few people and get better or you perish. This is applicable to any company in 21 st century.
