Brendan - I agree with John on NT scalability issues. The rest of this may be a bit off topic so you folks that don't like details, ignore the rest.

The other big problem I see with Microsoft is that there is a perception that they are firmly ensconced in mediocrity. That may be O.K. for noncritical apps but as a developer IMO many users use the products but are not impressed - including me. The products are continually buggy and MS doesn't do a very good job of communicating this information or the fixes. We've given up on tech support since we usually knew more about their product than they did and they charge dearly for tech support calls. Oracle for example on the other hand does a very good job and I believe that its one of the big reasons why they have become the marketshare leader.

I was on a team that found a bug in Oracle when 7.2 was released and Oracle jumped on it like a "chicken on a bug" and quickly came up with a "workaround" until they could fix it and do a maintenance release.

When I was doing a lot more work on SGI boxes, SGI was also pretty good about support. Much closer to Oracle than Microsoft.

On current quarter earnings, the ACE earnings is $0.27 to be announced on 4/17. Interesting that some broker just raised the estimate to 30 cents.

Regards
Jeff
