MediSolution to equip Super Drug
Mart chain of stores with Simplicity
Plus application
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--MediSolution Ltd. (TSE: MSH - news), Canada's leading provider of
information technology to the healthcare sector, announces that it has been awarded a contract by
Super Drug Mart, to equip its pharmacies with Simplicity Plus, the first Windows-based,
multi-jurisdictional prescription management solution. The Simplicity Plus solution is to be installed
at all of Super Drug Mart's 18 stores.
The Simplicity Plus application is already widely used in Canada and the Super Drug Mart award
represents the second Canadian pharmacy chain to adopt this pharmaceutical application.
In making the announcement, Remi St-Hilaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of
MediSolution said: ``The market for this type of application is particularly competitive, and the
rapid growth we are experiencing in Alberta, as well as our very positive entry into the
Saskatchewan territory are a tribute to the versatility of our products and certainly in keeping with
our stated strategy to expand our national presence.'
Russell Kimmet, Pharmacy Operations Director of Super Drug Mart, stated ``Simplicity Plus is a
pharmacy management system which integrates the filling of prescriptions with features that directly
support pharmaceutical care. These attributes make it part of the leading edge technology we are
continually seeking for our stores.'
Implementation work is well underway. Staff at Super Drug Mart are working in close
communication with MediSolution support personnel in regard to the soft- and hard- ware
upgrades being acquired to accommodate this new technological application. It is expected that
installation will be completed and the Y2K compatible system fully operational by early December.
The Simplicity Plus retail pharmacy prescription management system provides pharmacists with a
patient/prescription database as well as a drug/price database which allows the pharmacist to
quickly enter new prescriptions or refills, calculate the price according to complicated provincial
government and private insurance agreements, check the drug against other prescriptions in the
patient's file for dangerous drug interactions, process the insurance claim and print the prescription
label and the patient bill.
Super Drug Mart is a privately-owned company which operates an 18-store chain in the Greater
Calgary area. Its stores, widely known and highly respected, have a large customer base for both
