MFUs: >> Jay, how do you find this fitting into your metamorphosis theory?
Attitudes. The new web will be characterized by entrepreneurs who view objects in the web class tree simply as resources. The successful entrepreneurs themselves will have gone meta to the details of the technology ... their success increases as their identification with specific technologies decreases. Innovators in specific technologies (e.g., Silkroad) will still identify (I am Silkroad, We are Silkroad) ... but their success horizon will be defined by the framework of the meta-web ... and they must obey it's rules of process.
This is exactly parallel to what has happened in the Windows software world where the context for evolution has become very formalized.
It's almost as if evolution itself is saying "Ok, you've finished that lesson, time to reframe the game". Linear evolution within cycles culminating in punctuated evolution into new cycles ... with the quantum stage shift being characterized by the ability of the organism to detach itself from identification with the old.
I am detached from the chilly temperature outside on this November morning and am no longer compelled to identify with that reality ... which enables me to sit here and engage in evolution at this level. I can be meta to the food, clothing, shelter worldview. This doesn't mean that it doesn't function in my reality, it only means I am not ruled by it ... I am in a position of choice.
Just as Tato, perhaps, is not ruled by identification with specific technologies.
He has resources, instead of baggage.
A lot of US utility companies experience their resources as baggage(usually without self-awareness). Consider how the various telcos struggled to deal with the last mile transitions ... their major limitation is one of attitude. They struggle within their perceptual position of (exclusivity, telephony) ... identifying ... "these are my wires, my racks" ... and are bypassed by a dis-identified perceptual position, thus "we can use the wires, the racks".
Perhaps this Tato fellow has this knack of going meta.
Second thought is that these utilities companies have lots of food, clothing, and shelter ... they have lots of resources ... and an organizational structure which can easily morph to include new initiatives ... if they can achieve at least partial dis-identification with their legacy worldview.
Here on the eastside of Seattle, there are multiple competing educational institutions promoting their new courses on network installation and admin, fiber-optic technician certifications, etc, etc, etc, etc ... the skillset is being commoditized.
These utilities know how to deal with commodities.
What would happen if WCOM spun off a little group whose mandate was to develop a technology transfer program which enabled WCOM to partner with regional or local utilities and quickly ramp them up to MFU status. Meta to that ... suppose someone else developed a program which brought the total new media package ... bringing in pieces from different sources into a package digested for utility consumption and operation? Is this the ATHM paradigm exploded to the next level? |
