Karen, Jim and David:

I can't argue with Fix on Failure. It's tempting. My family is requiring that I compensate them for two years worth of Y2K discussions by helping out. :) And my life and business are too reliant on access to the Internet through a PC to take the risk myself. In fact, I am planning to load Linux and Netscape Navigator on an old PC to make sure I have a backup means of accessing Silicon Investor, among other things.

I am actually more concerned for Jim, who has been running his PC with the time set forward to 2000 for the past six months. This makes me very nervous. The problem is that not all of the applications may understand forward dating. You might want to look at the recent New York Times piece on the problems that users have already run into by setting the date forward and testing things out themselves. So I choose to remediate everything. Karen is going to wait and see but not patch a thing. David Eddy (who knows more than the rest of us put together) is going to wonder about the DOS-based PCs that are still running at his local restaurant, hospital, accountant.....

Hey, perhaps a Rip Van Winkle approach is called for here. Wake me in March and tell me what happened.
