Re: GEC p.l.c., Marconi, and DWDM from Nokia

elmatador,
Wonder what is going on with GEC's relationship with Marconi? The news of them purchasing the SDH/DWDM product division of Nokia is pretty exciting.

This whole relationship between GEC p.l.c. and Marconi is hard to understand. They never seemed to really be interested in merging their acquisitions like a Cisco would have done. For GEC to purchase Realtec, Fore Systems, and now DWDM from Nokia, seems like a plan to create a company that is tight with a US customer base.

Hard to figure what they had in mind in doing all these acquisitions in the first place unless it was just to create a company with a lot of perceived value to US investors and sell it to make a profit. If that was GEC p.l.c.'s main goal, IMHO I imagine they are going to be successful. I'm pretty excited about the range of products Marconi would be able to offer a telco who needs to upgrade their network to xDSL level bandwidth.

I wonder how confused the Realtec employees in Ohio are. And how about the Fore employees in Pennslyvania. They both became part of an international company overnight and may end up reverting back to a US based company soon.
