Doug, don't misunderstand me. Although the 36170 is aging a bit, its life cycle is still intact as an edge switch. However, it can't compete as a core switch today with larger carriers. Even TM stated this in the CC. This puts NN at a tremendous disadvantage for those carriers wanting a heterogeneous solution (most???).

The reason for the lack of a true core switch in the product lineup right now, is the failed 36190 effort. Apparently, the 36170 could not scale beyond 12.8G in any meaningful way. You wouldn't this by reading the literature on the website...
