I think the main issue is whether or not such a future technology-based economy will continue to put a downward pressure on inflation in the years to come by increasing productivity, regardless of the exact nature of the technology itself. I think it will.

In any case, I do agree with you that individual companies and sectors are risky bets in today's fast changing world. One needs to choose as broad a base as possible like the NDX100 or the MS High Tech index.
