Sun's MAJC chip likely to arrive in the first quarter
of 2000 in a new video system called TVD.

Here is a clip from the article:

Good graphics performance is critical to Sun's efforts to
elbow in on SGI turf. Sun will come out with a new video
system soon, Scheufele said, anticipating a tenfold
performance increase.

Peddie said the new video system, called TVD, likely will
arrive in the first quarter of 2000 and use Sun's upcoming
MAJC chip.

My thoughts: I believe Sun's MAJC and Sony's PlayStation II
systems with their 10 fold increase in graphics performance
will make Intel RDRAM PC's a must have in 2000. If you can
get a PlayStation II (in 2000) for ~$400 and can access the
Internet via cable and have an excellent multimedia
/video/voice system, Intel better architect Timna
with a Rambus memory controller (vs PC133), dual channel,
to exceed/match the performance of a SP II or MAJC chip.

RDRAM memory costs need to come down so the value
PC segment can go with RDRAM. Micron should announce
their RDRAM production very soon and they should help with
lowering the manuf. costs of RDRAM (Micron is said/known to
be the lowest cost DRAM producer).
