Hanil starts commercial production of lithium ion polymer batteries

¡¡Hanil Valence has begun commercial production of lithium ion polymer batteries, the next generation storage battery for mobile phones.

¡¡Hanil said it is the first firm in the world to start commercial production of lithium ion polymer batteries. Several battery makers in Japan are producing sample products of these batteries.

¡¡Hanil will produce 1 million lithium ion polymer batteries a month. The batteries will be 36mm x 65mm x 6mm in size with a capacity of 900mA/h. Hanil plans to begin producing large capacity lithium ion polymer batteries for notebook PCs in the second half of next year, targeting a monthly output of 6 million units by 2005.

For those of you who don't know, Hanil Valence is a 50/50 JV, where Hanil is committed to putting up the first $30 million or so (based on $/won) for CapEx and startup costs. Pretty impressive vote of confidence by Hanil Telecom in Valence Technology.
