"3G To Carry Two Thirds of Traffic By 2010
Third generation (3G) mobile networks will carry the traffic of 63% of the world's mobile users, equal to 1 billion users, by 2010 and will account for 66% of worldwide cellular service revenues, some US$548 billion, according to Ovum, the London, UK market analysis publisher.
However, moving cellular users to 3G services will have to start before real 3G networks become operational in 2001. Even then, some markets will be slow to adopt the technology."

I posted this link on the other Q thread earlier this evening. Putting this together with a previous article about coming capacity problems on some cellular systems due to data requirements, isn't this huge for QCOM? Isn't this the opportunity that Dr. J. was pointing to today about 1X and HDR?

Can anyone try and translate what a $548 billion cellular services market size for 3G means to QCOM's revenues and earnings over next 10 years?

It smells big to me!
