<<<I think HWP will also retrench its losing positions and concentrate on its core competencies. Packard Bell should have gotten out of the business a long time ago.>>
Many companies now forced to do the same thing(concentrate or sell divisions), or realise its best to do it. IBM must be doing well in servicing all those huge blue boxes, especially correcting the Y2k problems and bringing them up to the 21st century standards.
Perhaps P/C's are a distraction and where is the profit
in keeping or expanding the division when Dell sells for less.
and I believe IBM can envision much better potential elsewhere
This revolution ( web) is happening right now, despite
the plans for doing things within 2 years, or whatever.
Its a matter of launching those satellites( or contracting for them) ASAP. Or setting up the ground stations, or providing
high-speed access. Companies seem to know that if they don't get
in on the ground floor (ala AOL)hehe they will get left out.
2 years from now is too late. Which is why Dell is setting up all those new facilities
Summary:
Kemble's predictions may become real sooner than expected. I sense big things in the wind.
