Jeff -
Another problem SGI faces is the customer support issue. I have a friend here @ work that just bought an O2. To him it's a big purchase ~$11k. When he got the machine, the developer bundle for which he had paid wasn't installed and he got no media. He had a hard time getting SGI to come to grips with the problem and rectify it. Contrast that with this: we had a graphics board on one of our Onyx go bad, and when we installed the replacement, it took our FDDI ring down. We called SGI, and a service guy said he'd get another replacement ASAP. He got off the phone, got in his car, and drove an hour and a half to bring us the board. Try this : I've contacted SGI about buying an RTU for ProDev WorkShop on my Indy. They took over a month to get back to me, and when I told them what I wanted they said ok, we'll get you a quote. I haven't heard back since. I've got ProDev installed on my machine, and since I'm root, I just had to write a setuid perl script that fools the license server into thinking I've got a license. I'd be happy to pay for it, but I can't because they won't call. SGI only seems to be willing to work with you if you're talking about a sale or support of products worth several million dollars. This attitude has got to change or marketing and support will kill the advances SGI is making in the tech. area.
