Ike, More like Ted Baxter. <g> With all due respects to AG,
I think technology has more to do with the improvement (?) In the quality of life and our environment at escalating costs to the consumer.
Pharmaceutical company's turn out new drugs that fewer and fewer people can afford.
Hospitals acquire expensive new diagnostic tools that are periodically replaced and require new medical specialists to operate. Routine hospital stays now involve a myriad of expensive tests performed by a number of specialists. A day in the hospital now costs thousands of dollars.
The forced march to HDTV will require expensive new equipment by both the provider and consumer. (The result will be that you will one day be able to read the fine print in the disclaimers). <g>
In the workplace, where we once had secretary's operating self contained machines capable of turning out multiple copies in one operation, (typewriter and carbon paper), we now employ "Word Processing Specialists" who operate high-tech machines that require frequent replacement and upgrade of software. Annual costs per device run in the thousands.
People used to carry a few coins in their pockets in case they needed to make a phone call. Now everyone requires a cell phone that has recurring costs whether you make a call or not.
I'm sure you can come up with many similar examples.
Looks' to me like technology is fueling inflation that somehow is invisible to the Fed.
