Boeing's Engineering Process Council
Selects Unigraphics CAM Software as Its
Companywide Standard

Common Processes and Software Tools Reduce Cycle Time and Improve Product
Quality

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Unigraphics Solutions Inc. (NYSE: UGS - news) today announces that the
Boeing Corporation has selected its Unigraphics computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software as its standard
engineering tool for automated numerical control.

Automated Numerical Control (ANC) is a suite of processes and tools that integrates and optimizes the entire
design/build process for machined parts. ANC will use Unigraphics CAM and a set of Boeing-developed software
tools to automatically generate numerical control data from product geometry. Unigraphics CAM has been used
successfully by Boeing for over 500 complex machined production parts on the Joint Strike Fighter and F-22
programs. It is also used by Boeing's Kent and Auburn locations in the state of Washington, as well as in St. Louis,
Missouri. Discussions are underway for its use at additional sites related to other Boeing programs. ANC has
realized a significant reduction in engineering, NC programming and overall machine parts costs and flow times.

To streamline processes and increase its competitive edge, Boeing's Engineering Process Council has established an
initial set of standard engineering application tools to be used companywide on future product development programs
as well as current programs where feasible. Boeing expects all new programs to adopt standard tools like
Unigraphics CAM unless there is a good business case not to do so.

``Standardization supports the Boeing core competencies and our design anywhere, build anywhere philosophy,'
explains David Swain, Engineering Process Council leader and Boeing senior vice president of Engineering and
Technology and president of Phantom Works. ``If we are to work for aerospace dominance as one true global
company, we have to be able to flow work seamlessly between different locations and different business units ... To
do this, we all have to be working with the same sets of lean and efficient tools and processes.'

``UGS is delighted to have been selected as the Boeing CAM ANC standard,' says George Peters, director of
Unigraphics Solutions' Aerospace Region. ``This decision further enhances our long-held position as the industry
leader in CAM. Also, with the release of Unigraphics Version 16 -- one of the most significant CAM releases in the
product's history -- additional advanced capabilities will be available to Boeing, further strengthening its ANC
mission.'
