I've been looking at this. It appears to be an implementation of their management system. Simply put, optical components send management/status/control information to each other through a dedicated lambda. (Out of band management...sort of.) Presumably, this system would be used to reroute in case of a fiber cut. It doesn't sound particularly novel, but maybe this is how everybody does this. Laz
