I think there are a couple of reasons:

- the cost of this new breed of PCs will be low and the form factor could be more attractive and could
a) stave off PSIIs incursion at the lowend
b) cause some game buyers to consider a legacy-free PC instead of PSII

- If Sony continues to lose momentum, advances in the PC processor and infrastructure areas may overshadow what Sony can offer for Christmas 2000. One area could be just the MHz stuff. Will the PowerPC core used in PSII scale as well as Athlon or CuMine? In other words, the window for PSII is finite like anything else and Sony is in a pretty tight spot now.
