I would guess that if it was an arranged Mafia hit, part of the arrangement would have been to have removed family from the scene of the crime. I think it would be very difficult to conclude just exactly who had fore knowledge of what though.

If it was a suggested Russian mafia hit, presumably carried out with a heavier hand, then the outcome for the family may have merely been left to chance.

Reviewing the detritus of deals beached on Chalem's doorsteps it seems that there are a surplus off potential suspects.

I think the disgruntled investor theory is indeed less likely. It looks to me like there may even have been a queue forming of those with malevolent interests with regard to Chalem and/or Lehmann.
