I originally recall reading it was 10 acres, then 16 acres was the report.

I understand that the gate was open, but I have no idea if it was ornamental (always open) or whether there was an ability to monitor and control entrance to the estate. From the sounds of things, I think it was likely always open. But that is purely my guess.
