Hi Gary,
Immeditaly after Pronto was announced, I was digging around quite a bit. And the only thing I could find was Alcatel saying Alcatel is getting most of the business from SBC's Project Pronto.

So when SBC did their press release today (the first "official" one announcing vendors), and there were five other vendors on it. I feel pretty certain Alcatel isn't getting as much business as they had hoped and led us to believe.

Come to think of it, it may not even have been Alcatel sources for the slew of announcements saying Alcatel was the winner? But make no mistake, there was a slew of them. But not one I could verify with any certainty.

So what's making me think twice about Newbridge getting more SBC business than originally thought, is connected to Terence's comments in yesterday's conference call.

Terence said NN has sort of lucked into a good position with the Next Generation DSL line card business they are picking up in Europe. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he alluded to the 40% increase in Europe because the European carriers are upgrading the installed base of Newbridge equipment with next generation DSL line cards.

So wouldn't you think this would apply to the US market as DSL rollouts ramp up quite substantially here in the US. In particular, SBC's installed base of Newbridge equipment. I'm just not that familiar with NN's products previously sold to SBC(and it's newly acquired affliates).

Does this scenario make any sense to you?
Thanks,
MikeM(From Florida)
