i know exactly what's wrong, cause it happens to me too with win95.

it's about your norton's software. yep. but before you blame it, think again.

norton makes it so you shut down without a hang. but you're probably shutting down all background apps to install stuff, right? so norton gets turned off. then you go to reboot (either manually or automatically via the just installed software) and windows hangs at the close screen.

so it's not the installation that is causing it, it's the turning off of background apps.

that's the way i see it anyway. tell me you aren't running symantec software and i'll eat my hat.
