j, my thoughts on htch at this juncture were summarized by Fortun himself near the end of the call when he said "were in a pretty darn good position..." You just have to agree with that, but of course, we're talking about a good position in a lousy industry! The main problem seems to be on the expense side with their capacity problems. I thought they were honest with suggesting that it will be more than a year before demand really catches up.

In terms of growth opportunities...disk drives in a sewing machines? Oh, please. But wait! The two industries do have a lot in common...:

Most consumer applications seem to me better suited to solid-state storage solutions. So, I think the core computer storage markets have to provide the important growth for hutch. Certainly those markets will continue to grow. Plus, the factors that are suppressing suspension volume (relative to DD unit volume) ought to become less acute over the next few product generations.

My price predictions are always wrong, but your hope for $40 by summer seems pretty optimistic. "Explosive potential" are NOT the words I would use to describe the stock's outlook. But the value guy in me, says HTCH looks OK at these prices (<20). I'd be perfectly happy to find it in the mid 20's a year from now. (anybody else remember when 25% in a year was a pretty good investment?!) Unless Fortun is a big fibber, I can't see why that won't happen.
