Re: Transmission rate and bandwidth

Hi Valueman,

I'm hoping you can point me to a reference source so that I can understand how bandwidth relates to spectrum.

For instance, the typical AMPS cell transmissions at 824-892 Mhz is limited, AFAIK, to 25Mbps. PCS at ~1,900Mhz is limited to 30Mbps. LMDS at ~5Ghz is limited to 1.3Gbps. All, to the best of my knowledge.

What I am clueless about is the K, Ka and Ku bands and how they fit into this picture. Could you illuminate this relationship of band and capacity for those of us who chose the "Physics for Poets" alternative. I understand that the higher the frequency, the greater theoretical bit rate or information rate, while at the same time, the greater loss of signal due to environmental conditions.

Frank, ww, DT, BL, transmission, anyone want to chime in here?

TIA, Ray
