                            Industry Veteran Brings Over 20 Years of Financial Management Experience
                            SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Redback Networks (Nasdaq: RBAK)                           today announced that Craig M. Gentner has been appointed vice president of finance                           and chief financial officer, replacing Geoff Darby, who has resigned his position from                           the company. Gentner brings to Redback Networks more than 20 years experience in                           financial and operational management. Gentner has spent the last nine years as senior                           vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Network Equipment                           Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of multi-service wide area networking equipment                           used by carriers, enterprises and government organizations in more than 75 countries.

Earlier in his career, Gentner                           held various financial management positions at Envirotech Corporation.
