I have always supported improving conditions for the poor, fwiw. I just don't think the elderly are poor, as a group.

However on a personal level let me tell you what my experience is. About a month ago I went to a friends child's birthday party where her parents and her great aunt were there. This woman is a widow, 67 years old, living in a house she bought in 1975 for about 50K that is now worth 1.5mm. She was complaining about a $100. copay she had to pay to medicare, and the fact that medicare's dental program is poor. In general she was complaining about medicare.

The people at the table are all under 35, the kids parents are living in an apartment, he is working at a startup company who offer a medical plan with a copay of $1000 or you can do the HMO at $180/mo for a family of 4. (Its the same plan I have at a company I'm doing work for which is how I know). Nobody, and I mean nobody, has a dental plan - give me a break! And do you know how much dental expenses are out of pocket for two kids! This lady has it better than anybody at her table ever has had, and yet here she is complaining - come on.
