RE <<My guess is that they already exist and working samples were shown to Nintendo. It's the interface that is replacing Rambus on the new Nintendo Playstation. >>

I wish NEC and Nintendo all the best with their project. Sony Playstation is leading by a wide margin in 99 sales and will bury them with PSII in March well before by the Dolphin comes out. I back that statement with current Nintendo royalties to RMBS.

RE <<The smallest number of RDRAM per RIMM as validated by Intel, (last time I looked) was 4. This is an indication that granularity is at least a factor of four away from the current state of the art.>>

DRAM future density goes like this 128 256 512 1024. Number of RDRAM needed for most computing devices will decrease to the point where most applications will be soldered on mobo like they were on ill fated Packard Bell computers. It makes no sense to put 1 or 2 RDRAM on RIMM anyway. What informative point where you trying to make with your response. The RIMMs we are stuck with now are ill suited for practical hi-speed computing purposes but it was easier sell the RAMBUS concept by having RIMMs look like SIMMs.
Everything in RMBS's future is looking up and definitely subject to change. So lay off with the half assed technical mobo jumbo deflection of the real issues.
Cost and availability of RDRAM.
