OT...Pied
Pied, a nice strategy that I ran across once using options is as follows:
If you're bully on a stock but want to cover your butt consider the following, You do a "straddle" ( as opposed to a strangle ) on the options of the stock. You buy out of the money puts for protection and then buy your calls. If you're wrong and the stock tanks or at least takes a temporary dive, you sell off your puts at a + and you're sitting there with your calls and have offset their cost ( effectively lowered your cost) with the profits from the puts.
Now thats as opposed to a "strangle" where you buy puts and calls together "at the strike" and just pray for major movement in either direction. This might be a good play on an optionable volatile momo I-Nut that is hanging on the "hopes" of a major announcement that may or may not come about, but is anticipated.
What do you think? A couple of nice strategies to tuck in the old kit bag I'd say.
Now, as you know, either is not a PLCO play because PLCO doesn't trade options.
