MAHINDRA-British Telecom, an Indo-British joint venture, plans to set up a software development centre in the UAE, a senior company official said.
Ms. Vaijayanti Mauskar, Corporate Manager of the company, who was in Dubai to attend the recently concluded Gitex'99 show, told reporters that the company might have a small centre to start with. It is also seriously studying the planned Dubai Internet City, which is to be launched in a year's time. ``Dubai is an important aspect of our business development schemes,' she said.
Mahindra-BT opened an office in Oman three years ago. It is currently working on a Y2K project in Qatar, for which the contract period was recently extended.
Ms. Mauskar said the company would get into software engineering training in the region, though there are no plans for a separate institution. The training could be in India at the Mahindra Institute of Software Engineering, or somewhere in West Asia, depending on the convenience of the parties concerned, she said.
The company is also looking at the government sector in the region for total IT solutions, in which it has a high level of competence, she said.
