DiviCom Inc. [CUBE] will provide the entire digital television compression system for DirecTv Inc.'s [GMH] Castle Rock Broadcast Center in Castle Rock, Colo., executives of both companies announced. Financial terms were not disclosed.
DiviCom 's MPEG-2 compression system will enable the direct broadcast satellite (DBS) company to broadcast hundreds of digital channels to its nearly 8 million viewers throughout the country. The new contract continues a long-standing relationship between Divicom and DirecTv. For instance, Divicom built the entire uplink signal- processing system at DirecTv's Los Angeles Broadcast Center and provided compression equipment to DirecTv Japan.
"We were looking for proven engineering excellence, superior video quality and expert integration services," said Byron Kirchart, vice president of broadcast systems at DirecTv. "We selected DiviCom because they provide all three."
