Paradyne was up for sale before AT&T decided to split off Lucent. I am not sure exactly why. Paradyne is mainly in the modem business. Lucent seems to be focusing in higher end networking products & solutions. The margins aren't as good in the modem area as they are in the backend solutions, but I really don't know if that (financials) was the reason or not... Anyone?
