Furry one; Often the rock underground is filled with cracks and fissures and the core parts at those places. If the part occurs while drilling lots of shattered core and even core jamming can result(in the wire line casing) so it must be further broken to get it out and onto the logging boxes(core boxes are usually a bit over 4 feet long with 5 long circular grooves and are usually used for 20 feet of core, so it must be broken. Some times this slows the pace of drilling by 50-90%. It is marked with distance markers, either right on the core or on inserted bits of wood with a footage # on them. So it is rare to get a single continuous ten foot piece of core in competent groung. it is brittle and breaks easily, this explains why rope is rarely made from rock, no tensile strength, buy good in compression, pyramids still stand.
