I thought I told you what giving birth feels like already. It feels like someone took a six-inch diameter wooden stake with a very sharp end, sharp like a pencil just out of the sharpener, but much, much bigger in diameter, and set it in the ground, and then picked you up and impaled you on it between your legs, and left you suspended in mid-air like that. Yep. Maybe just four or five inch diameter, I could be exaggerating.

This was when Nick was born, he weighted almost 9 pounds (8 pounds 11 1/2 oz) and was almost too big to be born naturally, we came breathtakingly close to needing an emergency caesarean section, I was instructed to push really hard because they thought he was stuck. By the time it really got bad, it was almost over, and my sister was helping me, she's been a labor and delivery room nurse for about 20 years. And Nick had a really big black and blue bruise on his forehead, so it was no picnic for him, either.
