Techmark takes off
London's Techmark Index for high growth and technology shares was launched Thursday. Among the first-day leaders in the Techmark 100 were Internet service provider Freeserve PLC (FREE: news, msgs), which shot up 8.5 pence, or 5.2 percent to 171, with volume at 2,492,764.
-- U.K. online auction site QXL PLC(QXLC: news, msgs) soared 25.5 pence, or 11.6 percent, to close at 246. Volume was 1,639,750.
But a record rise in the Nasdaq Composite, which gained 1.6 percent, or 46.88 points, to 3,028.51 on Wednesday-- its first close above the key milestone after breaching the level in intra-day dealings on Tuesday -- didn't help all technology related shares.
-- In London, Baltimore Technologies PLC (BALT: news, msgs) slid 137.5 pence, or 6 percent, to 2175, with volume at 465,178.

some how i have trouble imagining the queen of england hawking qxl, but have no trouble visualizing clinton doing the same thing for ebay.
today was still a tiny amount of the float traded which caused the rise, and i was surprised it ignored the london price and kept going. will london gap up now? i hope so and actually plan on staying up till midnight to catch the london open.
funny thing is, qxlc is still a slow ipo. figuring it debuted at 16, and is only up 28%. |
