Funny thing, synchronicity. I walked into the kitchen barefoot an hour ago and engaged a thumbtack barefoot. And two things happened. (No, not teaching Helen some new words. She and her mommy are off on a date.) The first is that I was rather forcibly reminded of Gaugs' description some time back about how putting the tack in is not as bad as pulling it out. The skin sticks in a reeeally gross way. The seconnd is that there I was, checking for bleeding, sort of matter-of-factly RATING the pain experience. It was less bad than banging a shin - sorta up there with getting a really serious zit doctored. But now it's aching. Yuuck.
