Spy--Your question: "last year i kept wondering how would feel a guy who bought at the $ 47 peak in april 98 and sold in a panic in october 98, to see the stock ride 1500% after that without him..." is a good one. I traded EGRP many times during 1997 and 1998, occasionally making a (small) profit, occasionally buying in a panic, concerned that I was going to get left behind (like when it jumped 10 points--the equivalent of 40 points in today's shares!--when the Softbank investment was made). At one time I had 2,000 shares (pre-splits), but sold half of it to gain an "enormous" profit of about $2,500; had I held on to those 1,000 shares, they would have been worth a quarter of a million dollars in 5 months! Luckily, I held on to the 1,000 shares I bought on December 1, and after two splits I'm very happy. I often wonder how I would feel had I gotten left behind, and I made the decision that I wasn't going to trade this stock anymore--it was too distracting, and I ran the risk of making a grave financial error as I, like you, believe that this company is going places in the years to come that we can scarcely imagine. The employee stock management announcement today is big news, in my opinion, and is just one more reason why I'm comfortable with this company representing 2/3s of my portfolio, despite the fact that I earn or lose (all on paper, of course) ridiculous sums (to me, anyway) of money most days...
