Petz, Since most systems work out their life with no added memory would it make sense to make mobos with the rambus memory permanently planted on the mobo? This would elimininate a lot of the problems seen with the rambus....and limit the mobo to whatever you started with...256-512-etc. It seems to me that this is quite doable and would need the usual multilayer mobo with a rambus capable area...well within maker tech now...and the only cost is the loss of the ability to add more memory later....plan ahead, think maximum lifetime memory useage.
This would also shift a large cost base to the mobo makers and would heavily favor Micron and others who make memory and who can make mobos too. I suspect alliances will spring up to expedite the addition of $800 worth of memory to a $100 mobo that will ease the cost to the mobo maker and protect the financial interests of the memory maker to get paid.
