Let me bore you with some history here. The legal industry had standardized on Wang WP format during the 80's. When the client/server revolution came about and Wang got caught with its proprietary pants down, WordPerfect Corp focused on the legal industry. Within just a few months, the entire legal industry moved to WordPerfect. This was a year or two before MSFT began delivering WORD for Windows 1.0. Also, the legal industry was late in accepting the Windows OS and WordPerfect continued to enhance their product on the MS-DOS platform.

One of the reasons WordPerfect ultimately lost the entire market that it once dominated was its reluctance to deliver a Windows product. By the time they did, the game was over.
