Betty - Thanks for the info on the Lanier dictation device. I looked at the web site you provided and was so intrigued that I asked Lanier to send me more info. If they are able to use this with voice recognition software, not only would it help doctors get their oral medical reports on paper, but it could also be used for court reporting, depositions, etc. Making the process digital instead of analog means that one can go directly from voice to text, without need for special transcribing costs. Thus, even if one of these devices costs upwards of $2,000 (unlikely), substantial savings could be realized in probably less than a year.
The key to the technology is the ability to store the voice data at low cost, with no moving parts, and lower power requirements, making possible a wide set of applications in place of older, labor intensive technology. |
