By Elaine Hardcastle and Richard Meares

LONDON (Reuters) - Nasdaq, the U.S. stock market that houses high-tech stars like Microsoft,
said Friday it would launch in Europe next year, opening the way for 24-hour global trading of
top technology stocks.

``Nasdaq-Europe is an important step in creating an electronic global stock market,' said Frank
Zarb, head of the bourse's owners, the National Association of Securities Dealers.

The new Nasdaq electronic exchange will be based in London and open in the fourth quarter of
2000, as part of a plan to offer 24-hour trading in leading Asian, European and U.S. tech stocks.
