Not THAT' old..Wherever I live for any length of time you can bet I will learn the History of that culture..Holyoke was an old
Mill Town, where slave labor abounded in the 20th Century..
The Wool and Paper Mills had very few windows..Children
12 years old were workers..and we think our life is difficult???.
in the 60's all the Mills did a mass exodus into North Carolina..
where they created another Slave Labor existance..These Slaves
are now in China, Mexico, Taiwan etc..We wont even get into Bowpaw , India??The more things change the more they stay the same ;-) Holyoke was divided into
Pie Shaped Wedges called Wards..English (Top Dog) Irish, French, Polish and German.and Whatever They each had their own Churches and they all shopped at the Corner Grocery. They lived in Cold Water Flats' (Apartments) owned by the Mill Owner who also owned the Corner Grocery..These were White Slaves.."I OWE MY SOUL TO THE COMPANY STORE" saga.
Bill, I always make it a point to listen to the ELDERS...Therin
History lies Dormant, and our generation misses the truth' ATS
