I think that he is merely trying to justify his father, who was an America Firster and a Coughlinite. He is motivated by loyalty, which is a good quality in itself, of course. I do not think he is busy with a disinterested inquiry into the truth of the matter.....I am sorry, but it is an insult to characterize their sacrifice as futile, and not only to them, but to the nation, which stood as a bulwark against both fascism and communism. I consider Pat more loyal to the memory of his father than to his own country.....
