I understand that when the Americans liberated Dachau, several soldiers were so upset that they started firing upon the guards, who had surrendered. Their officers, fearing a mutiny if they interfered, allowed it to go on for several minutes, until the soldiers re-gained control....About 95% of Polish Jews were killed at Auschwitz, either through gassing or being worked to death, if I remember correctly. The workers were fed only enough to get several weeks of work out of them, and essentially starved to death, to be replaced by a new shipment....Do you recall how many people died at Auschwitz alone? |
