philpah, re: Microsoft Ruling of Fact

It seems clear now that the government is the BIG winner in this ruling. Some thoughts:

I wonder where the industry would be if it were not for the compatibility that the Windows OS provided. Monopoly or just very successful product, it brought a common platform to the PC. Would we be where we are now with several competing operating systems?

Will this open the gates (note small "g") to individual lawsuits against MSFT by "competing" companies?

I could be wrong, but I can't believe this is a positive for the other half of Wintel.

Wonder what they think overseas. One of our most successful companies, export sales over 60% of their total sales, US running massive trade deficit. A US leader of the tech revolution that is changing the way the world does business. I have a feeling the company would be celebrated if it were a European company.

Finally, at this point in time, what is more significant to peoples lives, governments or companies. The rule of law has always defined successful societies. But this feels uncomfortable.

Please pardon some random thoughts on a unique and interesting evening.

John
