A prediction. This thing will become POLITICAL. Big Time. No way the POLS can keep their hands out of this.

It hurts both parties if it becomes political because the Democratic DOJ pursued the case at the behest of, among others, at least one senior Republican insider. Hatch's role in this is extremely effective cover to shield against any attempt by Republicans to use this as an issue because if the Republicans really opposed this they'd have shut Hatch up.

The ones who'd take it political would be the Venturas, the Trumps, and the Buchanans (sp). The only Republicans that would give this major play would have to be outsiders. Keyes is already out so that leaves only Forbes.

Microsoft's biggest sin was thinking that it didn't have to participate in the extortion/payola scheme that funds modern politics. From what I understand Microsoft was not very active politically and, more importantly, not very liberal with their political donations. This gave them no one to call when they needed political favors to keep this case from ever getting off the ground.

Does anyone honestly not agree with this last paragraph?
