Lost? These are hunters. It's an area of a few hundred people and several thousand acres of open land. 2 acres for shooting, I'd say "yeah" don't do it. But picking? Depends on the layout and the neighbors and the history. Now when you go pick Lois's wild blackberries, most people ask first, but the answer is always "yes". And lots of folks come to our land to dig young trees and there's one hillside that has a bounty of elderberries that folks partake of. We could never use them all nor would we take the time to pick them. If we started an Elderberry Wine business, we'd spread the word. It's an old sort of place, though. I like that about it. You know when to ask about crossing land. If there's a gate to open, for instance. Or crops to go around. But the answer is almost always "yes" and almost everyone is respectful. It makes for great hiking and riding even though it is "private" land. In hunting season, you just need to know where the guns are.
