Some details on Intel's upcoming Dec. IEDM presentation. This new device design represents a 10% Id sat
improvement over Intel's previously published data. IF this design is used in Coppermine, it should increase Fmax by about 10% as well. Previously, I had thought Coppermine would top out at about 800MHz based on 1.5V and Intel's previously published device design. Based on a 1.65V release (+7.5%) and this new device design(+10%), my new estimate is 933MHz with an outside shot at 1GHz. Willamette should easily break thru 1GHz. AMD better get their .18um Athlon process up and running before the window of opportunity shuts entirely.
