JQP, I believe George was saying that Wall Street analysts had scaled down their estimates of Capex, not that there was to be NO increase in Capex. This in in turn has negatively impacted investor perceptions - for the moment. We won't know for sure until they actually do announce their plans.

Clearly the North Sea is weak. Brazil is strong. Shallow GOM is strong. West Africa may get strong If that article I posted on Sonangol turns out to be true. Angola and Brazil are both deep. The state oil industries of both nations are involved in jv's with the majors. While I am not exactly sure how these jv's work it would seem to me that the major may not have to shoulder huge initial start up costs that they have in the past. It does not mean that the money will not be spent. If you or any one else thinks this is incorrect, please post your reasons why.

It will be interesting to read ODB in the upcoming week. How about it Big? How about an issue on upcoming deepwater capex? Just 1 humble 'pescriber asking, but it would seem to be a pressing concern in the investment community.
