RTev: And what did they do with that power:
Did the gouge the consumer?- NO
Did they do their best to keep each new O/S backwardly compatible?- YES

The other complaints come from box makers and competitors who wanted to tamper with the code to create their own desktop or change the links to the O/S. In ther words the competitors wanted MSFT to turn over their O/S to them so they could tinker with it. What a mess that would be. As it is now the finger pointing between the box maker, peripheral maker and MSFT is an ordeal when something goes amiss.

No one was prevented by any barrier other than the market place from building a better Pentium O/S but MSFT was not obliged to help them in any way and naturally could be expected to defend their hard won turf. This is all nonsense with some low level District judge consorting with DOJ to have his day in the sun. This suit was vanity at its destructive nadir. If you challenge the use of the word consorting review the trial text and see the abusive demeanor exhibited by the judge to MSFT attorneys and witnesses and the almost collegial attitude extended to Boise and the DOJ witnesses. To further buttress this contention look at the non-legal inflammatory rhetoric used by the judge in his findings of fact.

His language is an attempt to inflame the media and political body against MSFT while threatening MSFT with finding them to be a monopoly in the unlawful sense without offering a shred of concrete evidence while at the same time ignoring the mitigating facts that are in MSFT's favor.
