Brumar..
There are of course two ways to approach scripture and since you tell me that you are being intellectually honest I do not expect any kind of integrity concerning spiritual matter not yet granted ...
I am reassured of your intent. ( you may not really know what that is yourself )
There are ways
Exogesis ... This is like Exoskeleton as opposed to Endoskeleton It is the process of getting meaning OUT OF the verses in God's word.
Isogesis .. is to read meaning IN TO it is to have an apriori approach to the verse.. which is what everyone does when they see John 3:16 as saying God loves the whole world.
There are certain rules recognized for centuries concerning proper biblical interpretation but though men follow them yet without the Spirit of God they cannot find Him
It is true that men can deceive using scripture indeed that is what satan does to Jesus in the wilderness and to Eve in the garden.
Classic example.
Mathew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
Judges 7:17 ......... do likewise: :-}
The above example requires quoting a verse that is Particular as if it were General
The second verse is only partially quoted and completely out of context.
That seems to be the type of thing you are accusing me of ( your not alone )
Did you read my stuff on John 3:16.. it is verse by verse exogesis.?? Posts 1570 1573 1577 1580
I will write a note to you so that you will see that I am not teaching what I Presupposed the Word to SAY but if fact struggle with these truths myself when I first began to SEE them....
And so next. ..... Roman 9
========== The Most Hated Chapter in the BIBLE ===========
Just for a moment though all intellectual prowess aside look:
Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 13:9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 13:43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 4:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. Mark 7:16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 8:8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Luke 14:35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
OK what did we learn from the above verses..... whenever you write "ears to hear" you need a comma immediately after it ! :-}
I said comma not Coma !
